WILL GRIFFITH

MISSION STATEMENT OF
THE GRIFFITH CENTER

The Griffith Center is a non-profit organization established
in 2008 at the initiative of artist, founder
and human rights activist Will Griffith.
The Foundation's purposes: promotion of cultural exchange, support of international artists, as well as hosting exhibits of art from around the world. The Griffith Center is also devoted to human rights advocacy, social justice causes, defense of the integrity of free expression and fighting censorship in art.
The Griffith Center is also home of the art work of Will Griffith, including an archive of the Artist's writings and quotes.
Activities of The Griffith Center
Exhibition projects
One of the main areas of the Center's activity is the arrangement and conduct of exhibition projects featuring artwork of international artists. Many projects are implemented thanks to the volunteer staff of The Griffith Center.
Building Project
The Griffith Center is currently focused on its building project, which will house a collection of Will Griffith's works as well as a future museum of contemporary art, to feature works of international artists. A full catalogue of the Center's collection is scheduled for publication in the summer of 2010. The Museum is expected to open within the next five years.
Support of young artists
In 2009, The Griffith Center established its young artists' nomination "New Light Award", under the leadership of Alysyn Ayrica Bourque,
Director & Curator of the Center, in the context of young artists who devote their art to human rights and social justice themes. Every year, the Center will set up exhibitions of young artists, seeing them as a particularly important element of its overall activity and to the future of art and its impact on our world.
Literary projects
The Griffith Center has its own Poetry Club, Atelier Poétique, founded by poetess Alysyn Ayrica. She also serves as Poet-in-Residence of the Center. Apart from the sessions at which poets and writers hold their forum discussions and engage in an online worship environment, the Club is also organizing a variety of literary events.
The Griffith Center is founded on the principle that artists, writers, musicians and others can alleviate a vast array of our socio-political ills by taking an active role in international affairs. By empowering our global citizenship, we can empower others. By recognizing our responsibility to humanity as a tool for making our world better, we become better ourselves.
